Youth Ensemble Theater
Beginning Saturday, September 26, 2009 and culminating Saturday May 26, 2010, the Youth Ensemble Theater Company is a high school age theatre group that will meet *weekly with the goal of creating and presenting two original theater productions over an 8-month period. Created in collaboration with The New Group theatre company and Urban Arts Partnership in New York City, the goal is for emerging actors to be trained in acting and playwriting skills and form a relationship with one of the finest Off-Broadway contemporary theater companies in New York City. Students will perform at the High Meadow Performing Arts Center as well as The New Group’s theater on theater row in New York City. In addition, ensemble members will be get to see The New Group’s spring production as part of their learning experience about creating and producing original contemporary theatre. Taught by former NYC actress, producer and drama teacher, Amy Poux, this program engages emerging actors in a dynamic and intensive process to build an artistic vocabulary and study a mix of techniques by theorists including Constantin Stanislavski (later work), Sanford Meisner, Augusto Boal, and Uta Hagen. Participants do improvisations, acting exercises, work on techniques like character subtext, inner-monologues, objectives and actions, scene blocking and character physicality, and have an enormous amount of fun doing it!
*the group will not meet during school vacations.
Saturday Youth Ensemble Theater will be $300 for the fall/winter semester and $600 for the entire year.
