Intergenerational Acting Classes

Taught by Amy Poux, ("Bound" director), this Acting class engages actors and non-actors in a mix of acting techniques used by theorists Augusto Boal, Sanford Meisner, and Uta Hagen. Participants do improvisations, acting exercises, and work on techniques like character subtext, inner-monologues, objectives and actions, scene blocking, character physicality, and have an enormous amount of fun doing it!  For actors and performers at every level, this intensive is geared to build ensemble techniques, improve stage presence, public speaking and provide a place for actors to do their work.  Ranging in age from 15 to 82, the program seeks to create a real-world atmosphere inside the acting class that generates theater that has impact, diverse, and brings people together from a large cross-section of the community.

Some quotes from this year's inter-generational drama class:

"I have taken many acting classes with Amy Poux since 2005, and I am only one of many students to keep coming back....Amy's work as a teacher/director is informed by her background as an actor, so empathy and emotional attunement are integral to her methods, which encourage the actor to be free, to work generously within the ensemble, and to develop habits of centering and focus."  -- N. Graham
"After years of wanting to take an acting class, your class appealed to me as accessible rather than intimidating.  I could not bring years of acting experience to our improv piece, but I could bring my own life experience.  Our other class members created truthful and  powerful characters in expressing their life experiences...from our teenager to our senior citizens...Taking the class was also a first class experience, intellectually satisfying, emotionally rich, and a wonderful opportunity to share daring theatre with my community." -- D. Fraser
"My experience in this class was much more than just taking a class. Ms. Poux interwove instruction regarding various techniques of acting and improvisation along with support and safety regarding the risks of performance. I found that I entered a community. Our class bonded on such a profound level that we not only grew as actors, we grew as people..  This experience has opened a part of me that on a deeper level I probably knew existed, but I never was able to access.  It changed my life." -- J. Wintrob
