MONDAYS
Snowshoeing-Tracking
- 3rd grade & up, Outdoor Field
- Mondays, 3:05 – 4:05 pm
We will be entering the winter wonderland looking for signs of animal life. Through our adventures on the nature trail and around the pond, we will track and discuss the mysterious paths of active animals in winter. Both the tracks and other signs of the most common mammals are easier to detect and interpret in the snow. We will strap on our snowshoes or cross country skis and search for telltale signs that these animals are all around us. During this time, we will make our own guide and sketch books to assist us on the trail. We will pour plaster molds of some of the best tracks that we encounter. Bring snow pants and snow boots as we will be out for an hour on some days.
TUESDAYS
The Wayfinder Experience: Cooperative Sword Games
- 3rd & 4th graders, Gathering
- Tuesdays, 3:05 – 4:30 pm
A fun, physical experience in which participants play games to teach valuable skills for being a part of a community like cooperation, trust and teamwork. These games include the use of our play-safe, foam ‘boffer’ swords as well as improvisational theatre and cooperative play techniques, where the sword is not a weapon, but a collectively used prop in a theatrical scene.
Drama II
- 5th - 8th grade, Performing Arts Center
- Tuesdays, 3:15 – 4:15 pm
Veteran Acting Teacher and Director, Allyson Uzzle will lead this diverse group of young actors through a process of learning to act using improvisation theatre games and scripted scenes. Students will be immersed in their own artistic exploration as they learn about comedy, farce and contemporary drama from one our finest directors of young actors.
Animal Tracking
- Pre-k & K, Field
- Tuesdays, 3:05 – 4:05 pm
Our local wildlife is very busy during the winter season searching out shelter, food, and water, and their stories are told in the tracks and traces of activity found right in our own backyards. With each snowstorm the work to survive becomes more challenging for winter's active animals, while other species lay dormant or even hibernate throughout the coldest months. We will get outdoors and discover this secret and magical world through the art of tracking. Although not required, snowshoes will be very helpful for the days with deep snow. Bring snow pants and snow boots as we will be out for an hour on some days.
